Mutton Steam Roast in Chiniot
Mutton steam roast is a whole-joint dish. Large cuts of mutton are marinated, then cooked slowly in a closed vessel so that the meat softens in its own steam instead of drying out over direct heat. It is brought to the table whole and carved in front of the guests, which is why hosts in Chiniot choose it when they want a centrepiece for the meal rather than one more curry in a daig.
Chiniot Pakwan Daig Service prepares mutton steam roast in sizes from 10 kg up to 60 kg of mutton. Each size and its current price is listed on this page, along with a serving guide. Use the guide as a starting point, then tell us how the roast sits in your menu, because a roast served next to biryani or pulao goes much further than one served on its own.
How a Steam Roast Is Cooked
The difference between a steam roast and an ordinary roast is the cooking environment. The marinated mutton is placed in a heavy, covered pot with only a little liquid at the base. As the pot heats, the liquid turns to steam, the lid holds it in, and the meat cooks in moist heat for a long time. Nothing chars, nothing dries, and the connective tissue in the larger joints breaks down slowly until the meat comes away from the bone with light pressure from a fork.
The marinade goes on well before cooking so that the spices reach beyond the surface of the meat, and the finished roast rests briefly before it travels, which keeps the juices inside the joint. Cooked this way, a roast holds its texture through the serving window of a function.
Choosing a Size: 10 kg to 60 kg
The right size depends on two things: how many guests you expect, and whether the roast is the main meat dish or one item among several. For a dawat where the roast is the centre of the table with only rice beside it, plan on the higher end of the serving guide. For a barat or walima where guests also have biryani, qorma, and BBQ, the same roast serves noticeably more people because each guest takes a smaller portion.
If your guest count falls between two sizes, tell us the number and the rest of the menu and we will recommend one. A whole roast cannot be topped up at the last minute the way a daig can, so when in doubt, choose the size above.
Where a Steam Roast Fits in a Chiniot Function
At a barat dinner, the roast is placed near the rice and carved as guests reach the table; it gives the groom’s side a dish that looks generous without needing a second gravy. At a walima, it does the same job for the host family, and it pairs naturally with a lighter rice such as pulao. On a mehndi night, a roast alongside BBQ items gives the crowd something substantial after the dholki, when appetite is high and the night is long.
Outside weddings, families in Chiniot order a steam roast for a dawat in honour of a guest from abroad, for a gathering after Eid prayers, and for engagement dinners at home. For a full shadi, our Wedding Daig Service in Chiniot page explains how the functions differ, how to avoid repeating a menu across two days, and what to tell us about each venue.
What to Serve Alongside the Roast
A roast is rich, so the dishes around it should balance it rather than compete with it. The most common pairing in Chiniot is a fragrant rice: Chicken Pulao Daig in Chiniot for a lighter table, or Beef Pulao Daig in Chiniot when the host wants a heartier plate. Hosts who want the dish Chiniot is known for on the same table often add a daig of Chinioti Mutton Kunna, served with naan, so that guests can choose between carved roast and slow-cooked kunna.
For a mehndi or a younger crowd, the roast sits well beside our BBQ menu: tikka, malai boti, and seekh kabab give variety while the roast anchors the table. Beef and chicken steam roast are also available if you would like more than one roast, or a different meat, for the same function; see the steam roast range.
Serving a Whole Roast Well
Keep the roast covered until carving begins so that it stays hot and moist. Place the carving point at the head of the serving line, with rice immediately after it, and carve as the line moves rather than slicing the whole joint in advance, because sliced meat left uncovered loses heat quickly. In a hall or marquee, the venue’s own staff normally handle this once the roast arrives, so give us the venue’s name and a contact number in advance.
What We Supply, and What You Arrange
We cook and supply the roast, ready to be carved and served. Carving at the table, serving staff, crockery, seating, and any tent or hall arrangements are handled by you or your venue. Naan or rice is arranged separately unless it is part of a wedding menu package you have chosen from our Wedding Foods range. For our full list of dishes and the areas of the city we cook for, see Daig Service in Chiniot.
Ordering a Mutton Steam Roast in Chiniot
Send us your date, your area in Chiniot, the number of guests, and whether the roast will be served with rice or on its own. If it is one of several wedding functions, send all the dates in the same message. We will confirm the size that suits you and its current price, and we will tell you plainly if a date is already full. For wedding-season dates, the earlier you confirm, the better.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many guests does one mutton steam roast serve?
It depends on the size you choose and on what else is on the table. The serving guide on this page gives a range for each size; if the roast is served with biryani or pulao and other dishes, it serves the higher end of that range or more. Tell us your menu and we will advise.
Does the roast arrive whole or already carved?
Whole. Carving is done at the venue by your serving team, which keeps the meat hot and presentable. If you have no serving team, let us know when you order so we can suggest how to manage the carving point.
Can I order beef or chicken steam roast instead of mutton?
Yes. Beef steam roast and chicken steam roast are separate products with their own sizes and prices. Some families order two different roasts for a large barat or walima.
Is rice or naan included with the roast?
Not with a standalone roast. Rice or naan is ordered separately, or included where one of our wedding menu packages lists it. Many hosts pair the roast with a chicken or beef pulao daig from us.
How far in advance should I order?
As early as your date is fixed. There is no set cut-off, but wedding-season dates fill up, and a whole roast is prepared specifically for your function, so a confirmed order a few days ahead is always easier than a last-minute one.
Do you provide serving staff or crockery with the roast?
No. We supply the cooked roast only. Serving staff, crockery, tables, and tents are arranged by the host family or the venue.
